Both Rick and Sue are involved with Charitable Fundraising.  At the time of meeting Sue was Development Director for The Variety Club of Great Britain and Rick was The Proprietor of Nailcote Hall Hotel (as of course he still is)

In August 2003, a Charity Golf event was held at Nailcote Hall where the funds raised at the prize-giving dinner were donated to The Midlands region of The Variety Club.   On first meeting Sue and Rick didn’t have time to speak much because the event was very busy, however there was an instant attraction.  After the event Sue thanked Rick for helping to raise much needed funds for the charity and she hoped to see him again sometime (purely business of course!)

It was on the following August Bank Holiday Monday that several text messages passed between Rick and Sue and finally Rick asked Sue out for a dinner date the following week.  Sue of course was delighted.

The rest of the last three years is history, with much toing and froing from Sue’s home in Willenhall to Ricks home in Dorridge. On Sue’s Birthday last year 5th August 2006, Rick popped the question!   On the following Friday there was a small gathering of Sue’s family and friends to celebrate her birthday, the announcement was made by Rick to everyone attending. 

Most people who know Rick will know that he loves to write poems for certain events, this was no exception and to inform everyone of his intentions the following poem was read out to all at the Birthday gathering
Ode  to Sue

When times were hard and no one’s there
To take some strain, to give and share
Along came Sue who’d suffered all
To fill my heart and make me tall

Her drive and spirit are there to see
And I’m so lucky that she loves me
A little blonde bombshell so full of life
Has now agreed to be my wife

The birthday celebrations had now become an engagement party and Rick and Sue want to thank their family and friends for their good wishes.

Rick and Sue get married exactly four years to the day of Rick asking Sue for a first date.
